Light is how architecture communicates. It renders form, proportion, and material visible and is an essential component of every spatial experience.

Dipol is an independent1 studio2 for light and architecture founded in 2022 by Jan Dinnebier and Paul Polaris. At the core of the studio’s work is the development and realization of lighting concepts, which are always done in close collaboration with architects and designers. In search of simple, clear, and poetic solutions3 international projects are created for public and private spaces, museums, office buildings, educational institutions, private houses, and outdoor spaces. Currently, dipol is working on the largest urban development project in Germany, for which the studio has been commissioned for park lighting and the development of custom outdoor fixtures.

Every project is a collaborative effort to internalize the needs of clients and future users and translate them into thoughtful4 environments. Light and darkness are deliberately used to activate spaces and to put the focus on what is essential. Architecture and light are then merged5 to create a versatile6 connection that can sustainably7 support people in their lives.

1 Independent because we are not affiliated with any lighting manufacturer.

2 Studio because we are researchers.

3 Simple, clear, and poetic solutions, because we are Arte Povera enthusiasts.

4 Thoughtful because we create spaces for people to feel good.

5 Merge because we love the pantheon’s opaion.

6 Versatile because we are convinced that light must be nimble and takes on an important role as a link between people (active) and architecture (static).

7 Sustainable in the sense that it is durable.
